Your brake system is more than just the pads and rotors.

When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure is sent through the brake system to the calipers or wheel cylinders. Those components apply the pads or shoes against the rotors or drums, creating the friction that slows the vehicle down.

A problem anywhere in that system can affect braking performance.

A squealing noise might be worn brake pads, but it could also be brake hardware, a sticking caliper, a glazed friction surface, or something else entirely. A soft pedal could be caused by air in the hydraulic system, a leak, a failing master cylinder, or another issue. Pulling during braking could involve a caliper, brake hose, suspension component, or even a difference in friction from one side to the other.

That’s why we don’t start by throwing brake parts at the car.

The goal isn’t to sell you the most parts possible. It’s to find out what the vehicle actually needs.

We’ll start by talking through the symptoms you’re experiencing and inspecting the brake system. Depending on the problem, that may include checking brake pad and rotor condition, measuring wear, inspecting calipers and hardware, checking brake fluid and hydraulic components, looking for leaks, and testing the vehicle under appropriate conditions.

If the problem isn’t immediately obvious, we’ll test further rather than guessing.

And when a repair is performed, we verify the result. A brake repair isn’t finished just because the new parts are installed. The vehicle should still brake properly afterward.

We also won’t recommend replacing a component simply because it’s old. If a part is worn, damaged, unsafe, or causing a problem, we’ll tell you. If it’s still serviceable, we’ll tell you that too.
