Roadside Repair

So, you’re broken down on the road, what’s next?

If your car won’t start, suddenly won’t move, or left you sitting on the side of the road with a warning light on, you don’t always need a tow truck. Sometimes the problem can be diagnosed and repaired right where the vehicle is.

That’s where N&H Repair comes in. We provide mobile roadside repair in Asheville and the surrounding area, bringing the tools and diagnostic equipment to you instead of requiring you to get the vehicle into a shop first.

A vehicle breaking down doesn’t always make the cause obvious. A no-start could be a dead battery, a starter problem, a fuel issue, an electrical fault, or a sensor keeping the engine from running. A vehicle that suddenly won’t move could have a transmission problem, a broken axle, an electrical issue, or something much simpler.

Rather than guessing at the problem, we start by figuring out what actually failed.

We’ll inspect the vehicle, communicate with its systems when possible, perform the necessary electrical or mechanical tests, and determine whether the problem can be safely repaired on site.

If it can be fixed roadside, we’ll fix it. If it can’t, we’ll tell you what we found and what needs to happen next.

Roadside service is often treated as a simple checklist: jump the battery, replace the tire, clear the code, and send you on your way.

That’s not how we approach it.

A repair that gets the vehicle moving isn’t necessarily a repair that solves the problem. For example, a battery jump might get the engine started, but if the alternator isn’t charging, you’ll be broken down again a few miles later.

Our goal is to determine why the vehicle stopped working in the first place, verify the repair, and give you an honest assessment of whether it’s safe to continue driving.

When you contact N&H, we’ll first get some basic information about what happened, where the vehicle is, and what it’s doing now. This helps us determine what equipment we’re likely to need and whether the problem sounds like something that can reasonably be handled roadside.

Once we’re there, we’ll inspect the vehicle and test the systems related to the failure.

Depending on the problem, that might include:

  • Battery and charging system testing
  • Electrical circuit testing
  • Computer diagnostics and scan data
  • Starter and starting-system testing
  • Fuel and ignition diagnosis
  • Visual and mechanical inspection
  • Brake and suspension inspection
  • Cooling-system diagnosis
  • Driveability and no-start diagnosis

Once the cause is identified, we’ll explain what we found and what your options are.

Some repairs can be completed immediately. Others may require parts, additional tools, or shop equipment that isn’t practical to bring roadside. In those cases, you’ll know what failed and why a tow or further repair is necessary before spending money on the next step.

Working on a vehicle on the side of a road isn’t always safe. If a vehicle is stopped in an area where there’s a significant risk to us, the vehicle, or other drivers, N&H Repair reserves the right to refuse or discontinue roadside work until the vehicle can be moved to a safe location.

If the vehicle is in an unsafe location, we may recommend having it moved to a nearby parking lot, driveway, or other suitable area before we perform the repair.

N&H Repair can diagnose and repair a wide range of common roadside breakdowns, including:

  • Car won’t start
  • Dead battery or charging problems
  • Starter problems
  • Electrical problems
  • Check engine light and other warning lights
  • Overheating
  • No-crank and intermittent no-start conditions
  • Fuel and ignition problems
  • Brake problems
  • Suspension problems
  • Cooling-system failures
  • Belt and pulley failures
  • Certain drivability problems
  • Other mechanical or electrical breakdowns

Not every vehicle failure can safely be repaired on the side of the road. We’ll assess the situation and let you know what’s realistically possible.

The biggest advantage is simple: you don’t have to figure out how to get a broken vehicle to a shop just to find out what’s wrong with it.

N&H comes to the vehicle.

That means we can often diagnose the problem where the breakdown happened and determine whether you’re looking at a simple roadside repair or a situation that actually requires a tow.

For a vehicle that won’t start in your driveway, a car stuck at work, or a breakdown on the side of the road, that’s a lot more useful than automatically sending a tow truck.
